I am interested in understanding how terrestrial planets work and especially the role of melt in planetary interiors, from the scale of volcanic magma reservoirs to planetary-scale magma oceans. To do so, I perform measurements in the laboratory under pressure and temperature in order to probe the physical and chemical properties of partially molten rocks. The technique I use is based on experimental petrology, including phase-relationship experiments and the use of in situ and real-time techniques such as impedance spectroscopy (electrical conductivity measurements). In order to further the interpretation of both laboratory and field data, I also develop collaborations in the U.S. and Europe with researchers in geophysics, planetary sciences, geodynamics, and field petrology.
